About the role…
The role of Director of Marketing & E-Commerce, reporting directly to our VP of Brand & Product Strategy based in our office in Bozeman, Montana. The Director of Marketing & E-Commerce is a senior commercial leader responsible for building the Oboz brand, accelerating demand, and driving strong financial performance across DTC, wholesale, and international markets. This role owns the brand strategy, seasonal storytelling, digital ecosystem, e-commerce business performance, and the integrated GTM system that links Product → Brand → Sales.
This leader turns consumer insight into action, transforms brand strategy into measurable growth, and ensures every touchpoint — retail, digital, and brand — delivers the Oboz truth while driving revenue and profitability. The Director leads a multidisciplinary marketing and digital team and is accountable for delivering high-impact work that strengthens brand equity and commercial results. Day to day responsibilities include;
Brand Strategy & Consumer Insight
- Define the brand strategy, positioning, target consumer, and narrative that anchor product creation, marketing, and channel execution.
- Build a consumer insights program that translates qualitative and quantitative learning into seasonally actionable direction for Product, Sales, and Creative.
- Evolve and protect the Oboz brand platform, ensuring it reflects the “Essence of Bozeman” and differentiates Oboz in a competitive landscape.
- Own brand architecture, naming, seasonal themes, and the storytelling framework that drives GTM.
Commercial & Channel Strategy
- Translate business objectives into clear marketing priorities for DTC, wholesale, and international markets.
- Build channel-specific strategies (DTC/Wholesale/Marketplace) that improve revenue, margin, traffic, conversion, and brand visibility.
- Partner with Sales to drive sell-in and sell-through for Strategic Accounts, including retail marketing, in-store storytelling, and account-specific activation plans.
- Prioritize investment and resources to deliver the highest commercial impact.
Go-to-Market Leadership
- Lead the seasonal GTM process from early consumer insight through product launch and in-market activation.
- Build integrated marketing plans that connect product, brand narratives, retail activation, and digital demand creation
- Own product storytelling and seasonal launch plans, ensuring alignment with Product, Sales, and Creative.
- Ensure campaign execution is on-brief, on-time, and tied to clear channel and financial KPIs.
Digital Strategy, Performance Marketing & E-Commerce P&L
- Own the e-commerce P&L, including revenue, margin, traffic, AOV, and conversion performance.
- Lead digital strategy across paid media, CRM/retention, marketplaces, site experience, and content.
- Build a data-driven performance marketing engine that fuels customer acquisition, retention, and lifetime value.
- Ensure digital storytelling and UX reflect brand identity while driving measurable results.
- Partner with Sales for marketplace strategy and governance.
Creative Direction & Brand Expression
- Translate brand strategy into creative concepts that resonate across all channels.
- Oversee brand identity, photography, video, content creation, and all consumer-facing creative.
- Ensure creative excellence that is both commercially effective and emotionally resonant.
- Maintain consistent brand expression across retail, digital, product, and global partners.
Cross-Functional Influence & Innovation
- Partner with Product to shape future product storytelling and ensure clarity in consumer and market opportunities.
- Partner with Product and Sales to ensure marketing activation supports revenue objectives and reflects inventory opportunities and constraints.
- Stay ahead of market, outdoor industry, cultural, and digital trends to drive a challenger-brand mindset.
- Bring forward new digital tools, retail formats, and storytelling methods that evolve how Oboz engages consumers.
Team & Operational Leadership
- Lead and develop a high-performing team across brand, creative, digital and e-commerce.
- Elevate the marketing operating system: brief processes, seasonal calendars, KPI dashboards, GTM rhythms, decision frameworks, and agency management.
- Manage the marketing and e-commerce budgets to maximize ROI and support sustainable growth.
- Foster a culture of creativity, accountability, innovation, and aligned brand and commercial execution.
About you… - Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, communications, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive brand and marketing leadership experience, ideally in outdoor, footwear, or consumer goods.
- Deep expertise across digital marketing, e-commerce, brand strategy, consumer insights, wholesale/retail marketing, content development, and performance analytics.
- Demonstrated success driving brand growth and commercial performance across both DTC and wholesale channels.
- Proven ability to develop and execute integrated marketing strategies that deliver measurable revenue and brand impact.
- Strong leadership and team-building experience, with a track record of developing and scaling high-performing brand and marketing teams.
- Skilled in executive communication, cross-functional collaboration, and influencing senior stakeholders.
- Experience managing budgets, agencies, and complex project portfolios in fast-paced, growth-oriented environments.
- Robust understanding of the go-to-market process for consumer brands; experience in footwear, outdoor, or performance products preferred.
- Proficiency with marketing technology platforms (CRM, marketing automation, analytics tools) and comfort making data-driven decisions.
