“ Dan is an enthusiastic trail user, both as a mountain biker and hiker, and his enthusiasm spills over onto the trail work days. ”
- Scott Waters | Senior Trails Coordinator for Jeffco Open Space
"I wish I started trail work earlier."
Dan Cavaliere is a recent retiree of Jefferson County Public Schools (just outside of Denver Colorado) where he taught Instrumental Music for 30 years. During many of those years he would take every opportunity possible to hit the trail on foot or bike. The trails he frequently used are part of Jefferson County Open Space which has a network of around 30 parks & trails. During this time Dan kept in the back of his mind that once he retired he would get out and start working on the trails he loved and used so much. He currently continues to get out on the trail as often as possible not only for recreation, but also with tools in hand to volunteer with Jeffco Open Space - putting in over 500 hours in the past 2 seasons. Dan’s only regret about recently becoming a volunteer on the trails….. “that I didn’t start doing it earlier! What a great way to be outdoors, work with others, and give back to the lands we all have the privilege to enjoy.

Dan's Quick Tip
Be Prepared for Changing Weather
"The main thing I think I found both through doing any hiking, biking or even trail work is just being prepared with every type of weather condition change."
