Our Commitment: Communities, Climate and Circularity
Our approach to sustainability and ESG practices is to transform business by integrating a benefit mindset for all people and places touched by our brand. We focus on three pillars: Communities, Climate, and Circularity. Communities is all about positively impacting the wellbeing of people everywhere we do business. Climate is working towards a low-carbon future by reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with global goals. And, lastly, focusing on Circularity is helping us to eliminate the linear take-make-waste approach to business.
Through this approach, we can make decisions that positively impact people and the planet while continuing to operate a profitable business. For more details on our approach to Communities, Climate, and Circularity, check out this recent integrated report published by our parent company, KMD Brands.
We partner with factories in Vietnam and Cambodia, and have local factory staff that work alongside them. Our US-based product development team visits these factories regularly. Ongoing, in-person collaboration with our factory partners allows us to be closer to manufacturing processes, their workers, and the materials we use in our footwear. Tested in a lab and in the field, our materials are developed to our specifications and carefully selected from known suppliers, many of them located near each factory. All our material suppliers are verified for environmental and social compliance by our full-time factory staff.
We are committed to a standard of excellence in every aspect of our business including ethical and responsible conduct in all our operations. In line with this commitment, we have a Workplace Code of Conduct in place with requirements for our suppliers with respect to labor standards and working conditions. In addition to this Code, we collaborate with our suppliers on capacity-building initiatives, including worker sentiment surveys and training to promote gender equality within the workplace. Please see the KMD Brands Integrated Report for more information and case studies. Our program to protect workers’ rights is independently assessed by the Fair Labor Association to ensure international labor standards and best practices are reflected throughout our supply chain.
We recognize the influence our purchasing practices have on workplace conditions and worker well-being. Oboz has a responsible purchasing policy and is strongly committed to responsible purchasing practices. This includes strong communication between sourcing and sustainability functions, and between sourcing teams and suppliers.
Our approach to sustainability and Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) practices comprises three pillars: Communities, Climate, and Circularity. Of these three pillars, Climate and Circularity concentrate on ways to lessen our impact on the environment.
Pillar Climate works toward a low-carbon future by reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with global goals. Since 2021, we have been tracking and offsetting our carbon footprint with the support of Toitu Envirocare and Bonneville Environmental Foundation. Through this effort, we have identified opportunities for collaboration with our factory partners and logistics providers. While the purchase of carbon offsets for our unavoidable emissions remains a component of our Climate efforts, we are focused on investing in reduction efforts. As part of KMD Brands, our parent company, we recently submitted our proposed carbon reduction targets to Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and await formal approval.
Our Circularity pillar helps us to eliminate the linear take-make-waste approach to business. Our overall aim is to embed circular thinking into our business operations, and we are committed to fostering and investing in innovation for circular business systems throughout our supply chain. A key aspect of Circularity at Oboz is rapidly expanding the use of responsibly sourced material. To us, “responsibly sourced” means that our products are made, to a significant degree, with environmentally preferred, low-climate impact materials. These could be materials that are regenerative, recycled or recyclable, bio-based, biodegradable, responsibly farmed or grown.
Learn more about our Oboz Preferred Materials guideline here. Our community strategy focuses on partnering with individuals, organizations, and causes that are closely tied to our purpose of empowering the people of the world to blaze their own trail. We refer to them as our Compass Partners.
True North for all our compass partners is a focus on educating the broader community in two key areas including:
- land conservation to protect public lands that are essential to environmental health and the outdoor recreation economy
- and equitable access to improve access to the outdoors, especially for underserved communities
Our top compass partners include Trees for the Future, Gallatin Valley Land Trust, Black Folks Camp Too, Continental Divide Trail Coalition, and 52 Hike Challenge.
Types of support include grants, sponsorships and/or product givebacks; in-kind footwear donations; employee volunteering; and brand advocacy.

“True To The Trail” encapsulates how we treat our people and our broader community. This includes continuing to expand our view and create an environment that is more open and inclusive. We know this trail is long and will have many peaks, valleys and summits to navigate.
Our Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) work aims to recruit more people of diverse backgrounds onto the trail and into Oboz footwear, and into Oboz company doors. Our most recent IDEA Report includes the steps we have taken thus far as we work toward reaching the first summits.
Yes, we have a robust chemical policy and restricted substance list. The Oboz Chemical Policy and Restricted Substances List is a detailed overview of our dedication to ensuring that the products we make are safe for workers, consumers, and the environment. This Policy is based on the strictest global standards with regard to the environment, human health, and product safety. The long-term objective of our chemical policy is to enable the continuous advancement of chemical management best practices by taking a proactive stance on specific classes of chemicals that we are restricting in our products and replacing them with safe, effective and affordable alternatives. Many of these substances can be grouped into “Six Classes,” each containing similar chemicals. The Six Classes approach allows us to better understand these harmful chemicals, their functions, where they are used, and how they can be eliminated.
A B Corp is a different way of doing business; it is a business structure that considers all stakeholders and balances purpose and profit. B Corps are a rapidly growing community driving a global movement of people using business as a force for good. B Corps around the world are together working towards a more inclusive, equitable and regenerative economic system. For us, our recent B corp certification will guide our sustainability and Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) practices, and provides us with a framework for continuous improvement. The B Corp framework helps us make decisions that have an overall positive impact on people and the planet while continuing to operate a profitable business. This benefit mindset lies at the center of the Benefit Corporation or “B Corp” movement. Learn more about B Corp here.
We use the Higg Index to measure the environmental impacts of our supply chain and guide how where can improve. The Higg Facility Environmental Module is used by key suppliers to assess their facility’s performance across energy, environmental management systems, water, waste, wastewater, air emissions, and chemical management. This data is verified on-site and then analyzed for opportunities to collaborate on performance improvement.
Transparency is fundamental to our approach to environmental, social, and governance practices. Oboz’ supplier list is publicly available via the Open Supply Hub, a collaborative supply chain mapping platform. The GPS map highlights the location and details of all final product manufacturers, traced inputs, and raw materials facilities. Choose KMD Brands as the Data Contributor, then filter by selecting Oboz from the Contributor List.
Fraudulent Oboz Websites
We are aware of some Oboz impersonators out there—acting as Oboz through fake social and fraudulent online accounts, targeting you and other Oboz consumers by offering too-good-to-be-true deals on fake or counterfeit Oboz footwear. Please know that obozfootwear.com is the official website for Oboz and is currently the only website that Oboz is directly operating.
We are asking you to be diligent when looking to purchase Oboz footwear for yourself or for gifts, as these imposters are tricky. They use Oboz imagery, Oboz logos, and other assets that you may recognize as Oboz as click bait. Rest assured, though, that you can always find a list of authorized Oboz dealers here on our Dealer Locator. If you are looking to purchase Oboz directly from us, the only website you need to know is obozfootwear.com.
If you have accidentally purchased from a fraudulent site, please contact your bank/payment provider immediately to have them place a stop payment for the transaction. Please report any suspicious websites or social accounts to help@obozfootwear.com. We are working through legal channels to remove fraudulent websites.
If you have any questions about a specific website’s legitimacy as a seller of Oboz footwear, please reach out to us at help@obozfootwear.com.

We do not give a specific temperature rating for our shoes as there is a wide variety of variables that can affect this: type of sock, activity, personal preference etc. We would recommend using our 200g Thinsulate® boots for high activity in cold weather and for every day activity in semi-cold weather. We would recommend using our 400g Thinsulate® boots for high activity in freezing temperatures and for every day activity in cold weather.
Our shoes and boots come with a range of heel drops from 8mm to 15mm depending on the model. Heel drop measurements for each model are approximate due to variances during product development and manufacturing.
