Name: Stephen Pierce
Hometown: East Aurora, NY
Where I’ve Been: I’ve pounded trails in many U.S. National Parks from Acadia in Maine to the Channel Islands of the coast of Southern California. Some of my more notable NP hikes include the Grand Canyon, Angels Landing and The Narrows in Zion, Half Dome & Upper Yosemite Falls in Yosemite, and the Beehive in Acadia. The past few years I’ve spent much of my trail time in the vast wilderness of NY’s Adirondack State Park, and in August I became an official "ADK 46er," meaning I climbed all 46 of NYS’s peaks 4,000 feet or higher.
Why I Hike: I live for those pre-dawn moments of flinging backpacks, boots, and miscellaneous gear into the back of my car, heading out on empty roads, and arriving at a trailhead with that tiny percentage of our population that knows the thrill of the trailhead sign-in log. I am an avid winter hiker/explorer and enjoy gearing up for deep wilderness adventures in the cold and snow. I love the feel of deep wilderness.
Lead The Way: This winter I hope to continue my way toward becoming a Winter 46er (summiting all of the Adirondack peaks between Dec 21 and March 21). My wife and I also hope to visit some of the great National Parks of the Pacific Northwest and/or possibly explore one of the Canadian National Parks.
