What's NEW for Spring '20

Back to Gear Reviews

Here at Oboz, we welcome 2020 with feet rearing to go, because new adventures await. And sure, we love Montana winters, especially seeing our Greater Yellowstone ecosystem blanketed in the white stuff, but antsiness for spring has kicked in. We’re atwitter for the trail. Stoked for singletrack. Bonkers to blaze the CDT. And, giddy to get you going with brand new spring styles. Read on to see what the buzz is all about.

For the fast hiker: the NEW Arete Collection

Arete shoes R1

Meet the Arete Collection, our lightest offering yet, featuring waterproof and non-waterproof low styles for men and women, as well as waterproof and non-waterproof mid heights for men and women. Geared for streamlined performance, they're designed to go longer, faster, and with the support and durability not typically known in a fast hiker.

A cousin to the men’s and women’s Cirque Low styles, Arete utilizes lightweight materials in the upper, including breathable woven mesh, no-sew TPU overlays and a welded TPU toe cap.

For suspension and support, we’ve brought in the A3 Chassis, (also in the Cirque Low). Its integrated shank reduces weight while providing proper support and flex points. The ESS forefoot plate mitigates over-flexion and protects from stone bruising. Inside, you’ll find our tried and true O FIT Insole, along with our B-Dry waterproof/breathable membrane.

Arete is a true three-season hiker that performs best on loose, dry terrain. You’ll find it most at home in North America’s southeastern and southwestern trails.

For the traditional hiker: the Premium Collection

Yellowstone shoes

For burly hikes that demand lasting comfort and support, we have our new Premium Collection. As the name suggests, these waterproof boots are crafted from premium materials, using Vibram® Megagrip in the outsole to mitigate slippage and increase durability, and ACT Impact dual-density lightweight polyurethane in the midsole. The upper consists of soft, full-grain leather upper that’s easy to clean and condition, along with metal hardware.

A lot of testing went into the development of this collection. To help us test the Yellowstone Premium Mid Waterproof boot, we worked with eight footwear testers—four women and four men—across North America in conditions ranging from mud, snow and river crossings in Revelstoke, BC, to steep slopes in Chugach National Forest in Alaska, to hot temps and freezing rain in Rimrock, Arizona. These over-performers gave us valuable information, logging averages of 165 hours and 120 miles per person, so we can bring to market the most premium hiking boot we know.

This line was also inspired by our national park system, specifically Yellowstone National Park. Because this geological gem has a special place in our hearts—its 18 million acres is right in our backyard—each purchase of the Premium Collection’s four styles supports Yellowstone National Park’s official non-profit partner, Yellowstone Forever. Yellowstone Forever’s mission of helping to ensure the park remains for all of us and generations to come falls right in step with our company’s ethos.

For the multifaceted hiker: Firebrand II Collection expansion

Firebrand II collection

Our Firebrand II offering has grown! Welcome the Men's Firebrand II Low Leather, featuring a full leather upper, the Women's Firebrand II Low Waterproof, and the Men's Firebrand II Low non-waterproof.

Inside all styles are our tried and true O FIT Insole. And, inside the men's and women's waterproof styles, you'll find our B-Dry waterproof/breathable membrane. The Firebrand II collection is created with our Sawtooth midsole—a dual-density EVA midsole that provides cushioning and stability, and a nylon shank that gives added support under foot. The Firebrand's Sawtooth outsole is built to be flexible, versatile and supportive.

These lower volume hikers will bring unbeatable comfort, protection, and lots of versatility to your favorite outdoor activity on and off the trail.
